This is actually sad.

I've been at the station for every inception of Danbury hockey and have been to many Trashers, Stars, Mad Hatters and mostly Danbury Whalers games.  i95 has had a relationship with every hockey team in Danbury.

I've never been a huge hockey fan, until I started attending games in Danbury through work.

Here is what the Whalers have done right:

  • They used the Whalers name
  • They hired coach Phil Esposito who despite my personal relationship with him is obviously a successful coach.
  • They teamed with our radio stations: i95 and KICKS 105.5 and we bring results to anyone who works with us.

Here is what in my opinion seems like they have done wrong:

  • I don't know the in's and outs of running such a unique organization but the facts are the facts. If you are the team that draws the most fans in the entire league, is loyal and spends money, how can you mess that up?  You have a good coach, always a competitive team and what happened?
  • I don't know what happened and I have a personal relationship with the coach, their marketing director and I even have talked to and been friendly with one of their co-owners Herm Sorcher, but somebody dropped the ball and the people that are going to pay are the Danbury Hockey fans and I'm not afraid to say this...THEY DON'T DESERVE IT.
  • Your product is great, the fans love it and you are obviously not doing what needs to be done to serve your loyal fans.

SHAME SHAME ... KNOW YOUR NAME!

Keep in mind what this means to the businesses around the arena from a revenue standpoint also.

The Mayor who we also know Mark Boughton should call a meeting because of what it means to Danbury, CT.

P.S. - I will say I want to thank Phil Esposito the head coach for his friendship to the show, his hard work and for appearing on our show this morning to address his fans.  That was his responsibility as a good head coach and he rose to the occasion.  Thank you Phil.
