A school bus driver sustained serious injuries following a collision on Wednesday. 

Luckily, there were no children on the school bus at the time of the collision. State Police from Dover Plains responded to a one-car collision involving a 15-passenger school bus.

The operator of the bus, a 60-year-old Wingdale woman was airlifted to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with serious injuries. A aid who was on the bus at the time was transported by ambulance to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A investigation indicates that the bus exited the right shoulder of the roadway, struck a telephone pole, a rock wall, and a tree before it came to rest. The driver was extricated from the bus.

Route 343 in the Town of Washington in Dutchess County was closed for nearly three hours as the investigation was conducted. The cause of the accident is unknown at this time. The investigation is still ongoing.
