Service on the Harlem Line has been suspended between North White Plains and Pleasantville this morning after a Metro-North Train commuter train collided during Tuesday's rush hour with a Jeep Cherokee that was stuck on the tracks.

The crash, that occured at the two-lane Commerce Street crossing in the Hawthorne-Valhalla area, left six people dead and more than 15 people injured, according to The Journal News.

Original reports stated that seven lives were loss in the crash, but that count was revised on Wednesday morning.

According to The Journal News, the female who was driving the Jeep may have been outside of the vehicle when the crash occurred. She perished in the crash, along with five train passengers.

Metro News Source reports that the MTA Chairman Tom Prendergast said the third rail entered the floor of an SUV that was stuck on the tracks, and piereced the floor of the Metro North Train’s first car triggering an explosion and fire causing the first car to be char and melt.

An investigation is on-going this morning. About a dozen National Transportation Safety Board members from Washington are expected to be on the scene for the next to seven days, The Journal News reports.
