The explosion of local farming has finally been noticed and addressed in our area.

I've heard and read about Waterbury-based Brass City Harvest and their local efforts for some time now. The non-profit organization works with local farms to provide food to the elderly, two local soup kitchens, and low-income, at-risk families.

They have my respect and admiration. Well, the news breaking right now is good all-around for the Brass City.

In a story reported by WTNH.COM , Brass City Harvest has received a grant to study and possibly build a 40,000 square-foot "Food Hub" in the South End of Waterbury on neglected land. This food hub would help local farmers, assist them in the growth of their products, and then get their produce washed, inspected, and packaged for sale or donation.

This would be the first facility of it's kind in Connecticut.
