A Lake Peekskill woman used her 8-month-old daughter to pass drugs to a prisoner, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office said Friday.
Alexa E. Michalko, 19, was visiting James Heaphy at Dutchess County Jail Thursday afternoon when she allegedly tried to pass suboxone to him. Authorities say Michalko used her daughter to conceal the exchange, but a corrections officer discovered the contraband.
Michalko was charged with promoting prison contraband and endangering the welfare of a child. Both are misdemeanor charges.
She was processed and released on a ticket to appear in City of Poughkeepsie court at a later date. Child protective services were contacted, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office press release said.
