Putnam County Sheriff's Officers arrested a woman for burglarizing a home in Garrison.

Berit O. Okay, 52, of Brewster turned herself in one day after the crime after her image was captured on a home video surveillance system and posted on the internet.

Okay is charged with burglarizing the home in Garrison. She allegedly entered the home through an unlocked door and stole six rings and an iPad from an upstairs bedroom.

The homeowner was out of town at the time, but discovered the crime only a few hours later, when he wirelessly checked the home video surveillance system that was installed to monitor his pet dogs. He reviewed the video and saw the footage of the woman in the home.

The homeowner notified the sheriff's office of the crime and sent them a still photo of the woman from the video. He also sent the photo to contacts on the internet. One of the contacts recognized the woman in photo and confronted her about her misdeed , and urged her to turn herself into the sheriffs.

She turned herself in and returned the stolen jewelry and electronics to investigators.

Okay is charged with burglary in the second degree, a class C felony, and criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a class E felony. Okay was remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or bail bond.

She is due back in court at a later date to answer the charges.
