A popular Brewster business, known for their burgers, milkshakes, mini-golf, and more, was burglarized.

New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) is investigating a burglary at Red Rooster Drive-In on Route 22 in Brewster.

Sunday morning around 9 a.m., employees arriving to open up the restaurant noticed the burglary. Police believe someone, or a group of people, broke in through a rear door and broke open cash registers.

A safe from the establishment was also stolen. The safe was found in the woods near the building by authorities, State Police Public Information Officer Trooper McMorris told Hamlet Hub.

It’s not known at this time how much money was taken from the business.

Red Rooster is a popular spot for Putnam County residents and tourists from all over. The business has been at its Brewster location since the 1960s. The New York Times says the drive-in offers “fast food with charm.”

Police are continuing their investigation into the burglary and hoping for help. Anyone with any information can call New York State Police from Brewster at 845-279–6161.
