Police: Pregnant Woman Among Two That Died in Weekend Crash

Police have released the names of the victims of a fatal accident that occurred Sunday night on River Road in Shelton, CT.

Police say that 19-year-old Lawrence Carter of Bridgeport was behind the wheel of a Mini Cooper when the car crashed into a Saturn traveling in the opposite direction. Carter was transported to the hospital and is in critical condition. That accident claimed the lives of 18-year-old Shalymar Herrera of West Haven and 23-year-old Briana Torres-Carter of Bridgeport. Adding another layer of tragedy is that Torres-Carter was pregnant.

A fourth passenger in the car, Jessie Abrams, 19, of Bridgeport, remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The three occupants of the Saturn are from Pennsylvania. Caitlin Kalafus, 25, Carly Kalafus, 22 and Paul Valleau, 26. All three were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A third car was also involved but police are calling it a non-contact vehicle.
