Police: Man Drove Drunk Near Kent Schools
Police say an intoxicated man was driving near schools in the Hudson Valley erratically. It turned out to be the man’s second DWI in 2016.
Kent Police responded to a 911 call near Kent schools on Route 52 of a person driving erratically. A short time later an officer pulled over the vehicle and identified the driver as 25-year-old Wilson Hernandez, of Jamaica.
Officials say it appeared that Hernandez didn’t speak English so assistance was requested from Carmel Police for a Spanish speaking officer. An investigation by the officers determined that Hernandez was intoxicated.
Hernandez was charged with a Felony DWI after a background check revealed a previous DWI conviction from February 2016.
Hernandez was additionally charged with 1st-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a felony, operating a motor vehicle without an interlock device, and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle, misdemeanors.
Hernandez was arraigned in Kent Town Court and remanded to Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 cash or $50,000 bail bond.
