A student has been arrested in association with two fires that are believed to have been intentionally set at New Milford High School.

According to a press release from the New Milford Police Department, the Resource Officer assigned to NMHS reported that there was a fire in a student lavatory at about 11:39 AM today (February 26). At that point, the school was evacuated and the fire was quickly extinguished with no injuries reported.

After an investigation into the fire, police say that it was intentionally set along with a second fire in a separate school bathroom.

Officers say an unnamed student was identified as the arsonist, arrested, and charged with arson, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and breach of peace.

The student was released on a written promise to appear in juvenile court in Waterbury on March 12.
