A Mahopac man was arrested on possession of drugs after police say he was spotted snorting a suspected controlled substance.

Members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit were conducting area patrols in the Town of Carmel when they say they observed a male subject sitting in a parked car who appeared to be ingesting a substance through a rolled up piece of paper. A method that is consistent with illegal drug use.

Police made contact with the suspect and alleged he was using a rolled up five dollar bill to snort a suspected controlled substance. An investigation revealed that 36-year-old Michael Reo, of Mahopac, was in possession of quantities of heroin, cocaine, and suboxone.

Reo was charged with three counts of 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. He was released in his own recognizance pending a future appearance in the Town of Carmel Justice Court.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00.
