The Danbury Westerners are a team in the summer New England Collegiate Baseball League(NECBL) and just happen to be the oldest active team in the league. The Westerners play all of their home games at Rogers Park in Danbury.

Players in the NECBL are some of the top Major League college prospects who join the summer league to keep themselves in shape and to fine tune their skills.

Many former players have gone on to play in the Majors.

Some of the Danbury Westerner alumni who play, or have played in the Major Leagues include:

  • Pete Zoccolillo (Brewers OF/2003)
  • Matt White (Red Sox LHP/2003)
  • Matt Joyce (Tigers OF/2008)
  • Jarrett Hoffpauir (Cardinals 2B/2009)
  • Matt DeSalvo (Yankees RHP/2009)
  • Jason Bergmann (Nationals RHP/2009)

Check out our interview with Westerner Manager, Ryan Smyth and keep an eye open for some of the players I've mentioned above.

The Westerner season debuts this Friday, June 5 at home against the Ocean State Waves. Game time is 6:30PM and admission is only $5 for adults and kids under thirteen are free.

Check out the entire schedule here. The Danbury Westerners house many players with host families from the beginning of June until the beginning of August. If you're interested in being a host family for a Westerner player, click right here!
