On several upcoming Saturday nights, you've got a chance to get up close and personal with some faraway planets and sky objects as Western Connecticut State University will open its Planetarium and Observatory to the public.

The evenings will start with a planetarium show with a sky viewing to follow.  WCSU has a top of the line, computer-controlled 20 inch reflecting telescope that is used for observing and research by students and faculty.  These events are free although donations are accepted.  Here is the schedule:

March 28th- Planetarium show 6:30 PM, Sky viewing 7:30 to 9:30 PM.  The moon will be near first-quarter and Jupiter will be visible.

April 11th- Planetarium Show 7 PM, Sky viewing 8 to 10 PM. Jupiter and Spring sky objects will be visible.

April 25th- Planetarium show 7 PM, Sky viewing 8 to 10 PM.  First quarter moon will be visible.

May 9th- Planetarium show 7:30 PM, Sky viewing 8:30 to 10:30 PM. Spring sky objects will be visible.

Sky viewings depend on good weather for a clear view of the sky, and may be cancelled due to clouds or rain. Planetarium shows will happen either way.  The planetarium and observatory is on WestConn's Westside Campus.  Parking is limited right at the top of the hill where the facility stands, but there is parking available along University Boulevard.
