Pile of Cash Awarded to Man Who Lost Testicle in Botched Surgery
How much is a testicle worth? According to the Hartford Courant, a judge awarded $386,000 to a man who lost a testicle during some sloppy vasectomy surgery. This 42 year old went in for the procedure in April of '13 but apparently the surgeon, Dr. Peter Albertsen injured the testicular artery. The man left the hospital in excruciating pain and returned three days later to find that his "beanbag" was not getting enough blood and was necrotic.
The testicle had to be surgically removed which, according to the judgement, has caused severe emotional trauma and has required "extensive therapy."
UConn Health sympathized with the patient's severe discomfort after the procedure but claimed there was no evidence to indicate the surgeon injured the testicular artery. UConn Health is considering appealing the court's decision.
