I've always been a huge Iron Chef fan. When I searched the term today, I found a really cool event that's happening in New Haven next month. Iron Chef Elm City: Hot in the Kitchen is on Sunday May 1 at the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale. What really caught my eye was the competing chefs, local firemen! One of the four competing chefs is a fireman/EMT from Danbury, Christopher Moore. The other three chefs/fire fighters are from the Bridgeport, New Haven, and Norwalk FD's.

Here's a video of last year's competition

According to the event's official Facebook page WTNH reporter Jocelyn Maminta will emcee the event, and it will run like a true Iron Chef competition, utilizing a secret ingredient. In the past couple of years, the secret ingredients have been popcorn/kettle corn, and pumpkin seeds. Ferraro's Market of New Haven will be providing the pantry items that the chefs will utilize in their dishes. The proceeds raised from the event will go to Gateway Community College for their culinary and hospitality students and programs.

Good luck Mr. Moore!
