If you'd like to get involved in your community rather than find fault with things around you, the time is now.

If being part of the solution is a concept that appeals to you, then the Newtown Police Department has an invitation you need to know about.

I wanted to share this information with you that I found on the Facebook page for the Newtown Police Department. announcing the dates for the 2018 Newtown Citizen Police Academy. Here's the posting:

Newtown Police Department will be hosting its 24th Citizen Police Academy beginning March 25th 2018. This free academy is open to adults 18 years of age or older. The deadline for sign up is 3/15/18.

The Citizen Police Academy is a 10 week program for residents of Newtown and surrounding towns designed to teach people about the various aspects of law enforcement and law enforcement as it pertains to this area. Classes will be held on Sundays from approximately 3pm – 6pm and are taught by Newtown Police Officers and other local members in the law enforcement field. The Citizen Police Academy is a great way to interact with local law enforcement and discuss current issues facing the field of law enforcement.

For more information or to sign up for the Citizen Police Academy you can visit the Newtown Police Department web page, facebook page, or contact Sgt. Matt Wood of the Newtown Police Department, 203-426-5841, or email him, matthew.wood@newtown-ct.gov. Again, applications will be accepted until March 15th.

Please don't hesitate to take advantage of this fantastic program.
