Welcome to New England, we have a lot of things to do here

I've noticed more For Sale signs around Connecticut than ever. That means we have a bunch of new neighbors moving here from all over the world. I've lived here for the majority of my life, and I love to travel close to home. Here are 5 places you should visit as soon as you can.

1. New York City - It's the greatest city in the world. That's both a boast and a fact. You could spend 100 lifetimes strolling the streets of the 5 boroughs, and not see everything. The best food, the best art, the best entertainment, the best of everything basically. New York City is everything, get down there immediately.

2. Eat a lobster roll in Maine - Maine is spectacular. Yes, there are cities and people, but Maine is a very quiet state, completely different from NYC. Maine is home to a delicacy that is exported around the world: Maine lobster. You want a perfect Summer day?  Take a dip at Old Orchard Beach, and then walk over to a beach-side shack and get fresh lobster meat, covered in butter, on a hot dog roll. Trust me

3. Walk Commercial Street in Provincetown - Cape Cod, Massachusetts on a Saturday night. Definitely not an activity for the faint of heart, or small children, but for adults? What an experience. The Cape itself is pristine, nothing but beautiful water and beaches. The commerce? Very unique. Incredible restaurants, beautiful art galleries, and cool little shops. What makes the Saturday night crowd so interesting? Every lifestyle is represented, and everyone is in a good mood and partying. Commercial Street crawls with life, go live and have a blast.

4. Drive along US Rt. 1 anywhere from Greenwich, Connecticut to Belfast, Maine -  The westerners can get their kicks on Rt. 66, but in New England? Rt. 1 is where it's at. You can take the express route and drive on the big road that Rt. 1 shadows, Interstate 95, but, you would miss out on hundreds of thousands of stores, restaurants, businesses, beautiful ocean views, and state parks that will take your breath away. Rt. 1 is a great road to just drive along, keep a sharp eye, and pull into whatever store or place that catches your eye.

5. Go to the Yankee Candle Flagship Store - Which is located in South Deerfield, Massachusetts. Mrs. Large is from this area, and always told stories about how beautiful the flagship store was. We finally went there a few years back, and go there now as often as we can. It's a cool thing to see what international success can do for a local business. The flagship store is beautiful, filled with more scents than you can imagine. It's not just candles though, there are many products brought in to sell to the non-candle fans. A great family-friendly destination that the kids will adore.

There you go, my top five picks on what and where you should go if you just moved to New England. Go explore our beautiful part of the world.
