Here's a sad story out of New Milford. According to the News-Times, New Milford mom Jesse Annuziata was arrested in March when police, who were searching for a bank robbery suspect, allegedly found her and her kids living in decrepit conditions which included used needles, garbage and used diapers.

She shared the apartment with 40-year-old, Curt Jones, who reportedly told police they were both addicted to heroin.

Annuziata and Jones were arrested for possession of drugs and risk of injury to a minor. Jones was also arrested for first degree robbery and second-degree larceny and has pleaded guilty to the robbery and the risk of injury charges. He's looking at 15 years in prison, the News-Times reports.

Annunziata will be sentenced on Dec. 1 and is expected to receive a five year sentence for the drug charge and risk-of-injury charge.

This is so wrong and so sad. The kids were removed from the home by the Department of Children and Families and will be placed in foster care.

Why didn't any of the kids speak up? Afraid of repercussions from the parents?

Should Annuziata be placed in a long term state run detox facility, where her chances for recovery are better than being in prison. I certainly don't have the answers. If you were the sentencing judge, how would you handle the situation?
