Because I am getting up there in years, I decided to check out the report card of hospitals within driving distance of New Fairfield.

The grading system for hospitals across the United States is called the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, and is becoming the gold standard for measuring patient safety according to MSNBC, the New York Times, and AARP The Magazine. Each hospital in every state gets a single letter grade -- A being the best and F being the worst -- based on six paragraphs of criteria on the Safety Grade website. Some of the measuring criteria are kind of gross like, Dangerous Objects Left in Patients Body, Dangerous Bed Sores, and Surgical Wounds Split Open. Yewww!

All of these Connecticut hospitals received an A grade:

The following Connecticut hospitals received a B grade:

The following Connecticut hospitals received a C grade:

Unfortunately, the two hospitals that received grades of D were Danbury Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury.

For I-95 listeners who live in the Hudson Valley area in New York State, the Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel and New-York Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital both received B grades. Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt. Kisco received the grade of A.
