There’s no denying NBC’s increased success with the live TV musical, to the point other networks are emulating the trend, so can they do the same with drama? We’ll get the truth (handling of it may vary) in 2017, as the network eyes a live adaptation of A Few Good Men, with Aaron Sorkin onboard.

Sorkin will return to adapt the teleplay and produce, having written the original Broadway play, and later adapted it for the iconic and Oscar-nominated film starring Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson and Demi Moore. The story will again be set in 1986 Washington, D.C., following military lawyer Lt. Daniel Kaffee as he defends three Marines on trial for murder.

Said NBC of the early 2017 production, which follows the initial rumors in 2014:

I am thrilled that Aaron Sorkin is coming back to NBC to adapt and produce a live broadcast of his electrifying play A Few Good Men, which seems as timely as ever today. Aaron is one of the most acclaimed theater, television, and film authors of our time, and I am pleased that the live event business that we pioneered with musicals is now expanding into other genres and attracting artists of his caliber. I look forward to his collaboration with our ‘A-team’ producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, to bring another exciting piece of live drama to a broad audience.

Added Sorkin:

I’ve been incredibly impressed watching NBC resurrect live musical theater for television and I’m eager to team up with Craig and Neil to help bring live drama back as well.
