10 Nearby Places to Celebrate the National Park Service’s 100th Anniversary
All across the USA, the National Park Service is celebrating their 100th Anniversary by offering free admission to all of their parks, monuments, and historic places.
Even though we can't show off the likes of a Yosemite or Grand Canyon, we do have a choice when it comes to National Park Service parks and historical places. Thanks to the Ossning Patch, here are 10 parks or historic sites that are within 100 miles of I-95's listening area.
STATUE OF LIBERTY NATIONAL MONUMENT - NEW YORK CITY
In 1886, The Statue of Liberty was given to the United States as a gift by France for the friendship the two countries shared during the American Revolution. Lady Liberty is a must see!
NEW ENGLAND NATIONAL SCENIC TRAIL - CT & MASS
The New England Trail covers 215 miles from Long Island Sound to the gorgeous mountain summits of Connecticut and Massachusetts. You'll experience everything from breathtaking views of the landscape to historic village centers and quiet streams. There's no charge to walk the trail but prices vary for overnight sites.
GATEWAY NATIONAL RECREATION AREA - NY & NJ
The Gateway National Recreation Area is made up of 26,607 acres in the Port of New York to the Port of New Jersey. The area encompasses Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, New York, and Monmouth county in New Jersey. The area includes the Jamaican Bay Wildlife Refuge and other areas to swim, fish, camp, boat, and bird watch.
