An ode to MOM..This year marks the 100th anniversary of President Woodrow Wilson officially naming Mother's Day a U.S. holiday. History lesson: Anna Jarvis started a campaign to honor her mom's work as a peace activist who cared for Civil War soldiers and founded Mother's Day work clubs to address public health issues. An interesting twist...by the early 1920's Jarvis was so disgusted by the commercialization of the holiday she was arrested for protesting a Mother's Day event and tried to get the holiday rescinded.Well commercial or not 100 years later we still celebrate MOM!!! It's especially poignant for me as an adopted child ever thankful of a mother's gift of a great life with another. So here's to Christine, who gave me life, and Adelaide ( R.I.P ) who loved me to the end of days.
