I started playing video games on Intellivision and the Atari 2600. I'm an old school gamer, but I've stepped into the world of role playing games on my tablet and smartphone and I CAN'T STOP playing! But, what a great time killer! I wrote about my earlier fascination with the game "Hay Day," and I still occasionally play it. I flirted with "Clash of Clans," but found it boring.

Three weeks ago I downloaded "Game of War: Fire Age," and I can't put it down! Basically, you're put into a virtual world, with a small city. Then you have to build this city from the ground up. Along the way, you make friends, and fight enemies.

The big bad folks in my world are called $$i. They're billionaires, and I'm living paycheck to paycheck!

You form alliances with other "Noobs" (first time players), and try to withstand the brutal attacks from alliances called $$i, E=K, and pc# (that's my alliance!). It's a blast, and you meet people from all over the world.

In my alliance, I have people from England, Scotland, Australia, and Brazil! Most of the game play is building your city and troops, and getting stronger financially and physically. Here's a peek at my city:

Pretty huh? I was destroyed financially 15 minutes before I took this picture by GT40 from $$i. I'll get you someday GT40!

Gameplay is pretty simple, and other players are usually quick to answer your questions. If you have a "staycation" planned, I highly recommend checking this app/game out. If you do download it, search for "Large D" in the pc# alliance, maybe I can get you an invite into our alliance.

Then you and I can go take on GT40, or, maybe even BABA THE GREAT ... (shudder).
