According to something called fivethirtyeight.com, the most banned wedding song is "The Chicken Dance," "The Cha-Cha Slide" by DJ Casper comes in at #2 and "The Macarena" by Los Del Rio takes the #3 slot. Before you even ask, yes, "The Electric Slide," "YMCA" and "Cotton Eye Joe" do make the list and rank pretty high.

This makes sense to my brain, because ALL of those songs are TERRIBLE. I looked to see where my most hated song ranked and I am happy to report that "Love Shack" by the B-52's is #11. You know, because it sucks.

The inherit problem with "ban lists" for wedding DJs is that the songs that most often appear on these lists are the ones that get the dance floor going. This is sad, but it's absolutely true. As a person who has both been a guest at 1 million weddings and has been the DJ at a bunch of them, I am here to tell you that people absolutely LOVE bad music. Every one of the songs that appear on this list of the 50 Most banned at weddings gets the majority of people out of their seats and onto the dance floor.

So, make your list of the songs you do not want to hear at your wedding. If your DJ is any good, he will ignore the list and do what he wants, because nothing sucks worse than a wedding where you play all of your favorite songs and no one dances.
