Have you had any water company employees come to your door recently asking to check the water? Make sure you are being safe anytime someone comes to the door. Read on to find out how.

According to Fox CT and the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC), two men posed as water company employees and gained entry to a home in Newington. They told the homeowner they needed to check the water.

Here are some tips from the water company to keep you safe from imposters:

  1. The vehicles that MDC employees drive are marked with the MDC logo and the field employees wear clothing with the logo as well.
  2. All employees will have identification badges. Don't be afraid to ask to see ID. The policy for the MDC is "No identification - No Entry."
  3. If you don't have a scheduled appointed with the water company, but someone shows up at your door, do not let them into your home. Call the MDC Command Center at 860-278-7850 ext. 3600 to see if this person is actually with the MDC.
  4. Bottom line, if you have any doubt do not let them in the house and call the police.
