After months of news about layoffs and an uncertain future of many local jobs at Sikorsky aircraft, news that Lockheed Martin buying the company came out today.

According to WTNH, Lockheed will be buying the Stratford based maker of the Black Hawk helicopter for $9 billion. This comes after news that United Technologies was looking to spin off the Sikorsky brand.

According to an agreement, Lockheed Martin will keep all of Sikorsky's operations in Connecticut for at least 5 years, which is good for the local job market.  I can't imagine they would want to invest in building an entire new plant elsewhere. However with our lovely tax laws, it would also make plenty of sense.

Hopefully this news is good news for employees and retirees of the long standing helicopter manufacturer.
