Panera Bread Is Recalling Their Cream Cheese in CT and NY
If you're fan of Panera Bread, you may want to avoid getting anything with cream cheese since there is a recall happening at all stores in Greater Danbury and the Hudson Valley.
Apparently, one variety of the cream cheese tested positive for the Listeria contamination. The bacteria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. It's also particularly dangerous to pregnant women, as it can cause miscarriages and still births.
Healthy people usually only suffer short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
According to a press release on their website, Panera is voluntary recalling all varieties of their 2 oz. and 8 oz. cream cheese products that have an expiration date on or before April 2.
The company did release a public statement saying that the recall was totally voluntary, kind of a preemptive strike, since the bacteria was only found in samples of one variety of the 2 oz. cream cheese.
The safety of our guests and associates is paramount, therefore we are recalling all cream cheese products sold in the US with an active shelf life. We have likewise ceased all manufacturing in the associated cream cheese facility. Our intent is to go above and beyond for our guests. You should expect nothing less from Panera.”
If you have any of these products, you should discard them immediately and contact Panera Bread Customer Service, Monday through Sunday, at 1-855-6-PANERA or visit Panera.custhelp.com for a full refund.
