Last Chance for Massive Fried Dough in Waterbury
One of the area's best street festivals draws to a close today in Waterbury.
The 78th Annual Our Lady of Mount Carmel Italian Feast is the highlight of the Town Plot Summer. You start to get excited when they line Highland Avenue with the Italian flags and banners in the beginning of June.
Soon, Congress Ave and America Street will pulse with the sweet sounds of the Tarantella, incredibly huge fried doughs, that are powdered delicately are served up. The thick smell of traditional Italian sausage and peppers, and authentic Italian Soffrito fill the air.
There are still a few old-timers playing a spirited game of "Morra", beer in one hand, fingers on the other flying in each others faces as they scream "DOOAYYYYYYY" "CHINGWAHHHHH" at each other
Following the Mass today at 10:30, the traditional procession will proceed through Town Plot, and it's a beautiful thing to see. The feast will resume from 2PM to 9PM. It's been a great run of weather once again for this event. Get down there and show off your pride
