I have foggy memories of cutting down our own Xmas tree back in the day. My mom usually pre-gamed and had a couple of shots of whiskey. It didn't go well.

My memories aside, many of the hardcore Xmas lovers feel the need to search out the perfect tree by cutting it down themselves. My friends, Mary and Brian, in my opinion, go a bit overboard by cutting down 5 Xmas trees for the inside of their home coupled with 10 boxes of decorations. You know what they say? "It's all fun and games until Santa gets into the Jose Cuervo!"

Castle Hill Farm - Newtown
Castle Hill's tree farm is located at 5 Hattertown Rd. in Newtown where you'll find 20 acres of trees. You will be provided with a tag or a saw and netting if you need it. There are plenty of pre-cut trees averaging $40 and the cut-your-own run $55.

Everett's Corner Tree Farm - Easton

Jones Family Farm - Shelton
The Jones Family Farm is the mack-daddy of all the Xmas tree locations. Located at 266 Israel Hill Rd. in Shelton, the farm has been part of the Jones family for the last 60 years. Cut your own or pre-cut trees are available in every size. Call 203-929-8425 for more info.

Busy Acres Tree Farm - Woodbury
Just a short sleigh ride up I-84 to Woodbury, you'll find Busy Acres Tree Farm at 5 Fox Road. They offer 30 acres of both choose and cut trees with a set price of $50, plus they offer saws, twine, and netting for your freshly cut tree. Angevine Farm - Warren
If you're in the mood for a scenic drive from the Danbury area, take Rt. 202 north into Warren, which is just a few miles past Lake Waramaug in New Preston. When you arrive at Angevine Farm, you'll find over 35 acres of beautiful Xmas trees for the picking. You can either cut down your own(saws are provided) or they have a large selection of freshly cut trees. They're located at 40 Angevine Road in Warren CT. Their contact number is 860-868-7226.

Averill Farm - Washington Depot
You'll find Averill Farm at 250 Calhoun St. in Washington Depot where they're open Friday through Monday from 9:30 till 4:30. Handmade wreaths are also available, and while you're there, enjoy a glass of sweet or hard cider! If you need some more info, call 860-868-2777.

Lappala Christmas Tree Farm - New Milford
Lappala's is located at the corners of Rt. 202 and Upland Road in New Milford. All trees are $50 and include netting and saws if you need one. They're open Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 3:30pm or on weekdays by appointment at 860-354-3540.
