Kane Brown was country music's most nominated artist ahead of the 2018 American Music Awards, and he left the most decorated country singer with three AMA Awards wins. He also made history.

Only Brown's win for Favorite Male Artist Country was televised, but he also picked up wins for Favorite Album — Country (Kane Brown) and Favorite Song — Country for "Heaven." CMT points out that Brown's three wins were the most ever in one night for a country singer who had not won an AMA previously.

"I feel like I’m about to pass out," Brown said in accepting his Favorite Male Artist — Country award. "Thank God, thank my fans, thanks to my manager Martha, my team, my band, Sony, Universal Publishing. Thanks to everybody who helped me with this ... I love everybody."

On Instagram after the show, he offered a more succinct reaction: "What?!?!"

Brown's AMA wins were more impressive due to the competition. He topped Luke Bryan and Thomas Rhett for Favorite Male, Luke Combs and Rhett for Album and Dan + Shay and Florida Georgia Line with Bebe Rexha for Country Song. FGL did win Favorite Duo/Group Country, while Carrie Underwood won Favorite Female Artist Country.

Underwood was country music's only performer, although Kelsea Ballerini and Rhett presented. Brown also presented, giving the Favorite Soul/R&B Album category award to XXXTentacion's mother on the late rapper's behalf.

After winning his awards, he spoke with media about his unconventional journey to country music. "I grew up with '90s country music and then I switched around to R&B, rap, rock and then got back into country music ... and the first song I heard was 'Cruise' by Florida Georgia Line and I was like, 'I can fit here,'" he said, according to Media, Entertainment Arts Worldwide. "I love doing different things, I have an album coming out on Nov 9 called Experiment. It’s all over the place, traditional country, new country … all over and I feel like that is where country has been going. 'The Middle' by Maren Morris is a huge song, Kelsea Ballerini, the Chainsmokers, and I feel like everybody in country music as an artist just loves music in general. They know where they fit, country music, but they also want to collab."

The "Lose It" singer's next step will be releasing the Experiment album on Nov. 9. He's also set to get married this year. His fiancee did not join him on the American Music Awards red carpet, however.
