According to ESPN the New York Jets have traded QB Teddy Bridgewater and a 2019 sixth round pick to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for a third round pick in the 2019 draft. The team also went one step further and named rookie QB Sam Darnold the week 1 starter versus the Lions.

The quarterback position was a crowded field for the New York Jets for the first time in a long time and now they have made it less crowded. Bridgewater is out, Darnold is the starter and Josh McCown will serve as the teams backup.

This is a move that we can argue about all we want but we won't really know whether it's good or bad one until the season plays out. I personally would have hung onto Bridgewater just for insurance, just to see how things go first. I don't even mean in terms of poor play, I want insurance from injuries and you just never know.

I would have kept Bridgewater to protect from the nightmare scenario. We all know what that is, Darnold gets injured week 1 or 2 with a season ending injury and you have a 39 year old, journeyman behind center for the whole season. The Jets are ALL IN on Darnold. Let's see what happens.
