It’s Not a Death Sentence, It’s An Opportunity [PHOTOS]

I turned 65 last month. You know what that means? It means senior citizen discounts baby!My son EJ thinks it's pretty cool that the AMC Theater rewards me for being old. Check it out fellow 'seniors!' Outback Steakhouse offers a 15% discount for AARP members Monday thru Thursday, Subway - 10% off(60+), Wendy's - 10% off(55+), Kohl's offers a 15% discount to seniors 55+ on Wednesday's only, and the list goes on and on!

You could say that getting old 'sucks.' It certainly has its moments, like more aches and pains, your metabolism comes to a complete standstill, your memory isn't quite as sharp as it was, and a 10 year old kid can figure out an issue with your iphone long before you ever will.

You have two options here, wallow in a sea of self pity or 'embrace your age'! You can't change what time dictates. No one said you have to 'act' old, whatever 'acting old' means. You can let 'old age' just happen or you can nudge it out of the way by taking up an activity that might be out of your comfort zone like taking a walk every day or signing up for dance lessons at Arthur Murray. Then you have that amazing "Grandfather Thing!"

I'm not writing this blog to preach to my fellow 60+ friends. My purpose is to motivate me to get up off my ass and tackle some of the same issues I write about. I'm tired, I'm chubby, I eat too much cheese, I don't exercise, and my cholesterol is through the roof, and its no one's fault but my own. I need to act sooner rather than later for my wife and my kids, but most importantly, me.
