Things you need to know on May 6.

  • Congratulations to the Connecticut State Police for looking great. Troopers recently went to Newport, Rhode Island for a national police parade where law enforcement agencies were judged on many different aspects, including their dress uniform, according to Metro News Source. Our Connecticut State Police took home the prize for best uniform.
  • Get up outta your chair! Why you ask? It's National "Get Fit, Don't Sit" Day. The American Diabetes Association says sitting in an office chair for more than 90-minutes at a time can slowly start to affect your health by increasing your risk of diabetes and heart problems. Time to take a walk around the building - just make sure you aren't starring at your phone!
  • To know me is to know I love to SHOP til I DROP! I salute National Small Business Week. The U.S. Small Business Administration reports more than half of Americans either own or work for small businesses, according to Metro News Source. The SBA says small businesses create about two of every three new jobs in this country every year, so make sure you SHOP LOCAL AND SHOP SMALL.
  • 'Astroturfing' is now in the dictionary.  The made-up word that means 'creating fake grassroots political support' is one of hundreds of new words and phrases that have just been added to the database of Dictionary.com.  Also entering the lexicon are 'bi-gender,' 'revenge porn' and 'dark web,' which is defined as "that portion of the internet that is hidden from search engines." I'm so hooked on this website. You can be too, just click on DICTIONARY.COM
