This is one of the biggest Labor Day parades around. The Newtown Labor Day Parade is less than a month away.

On September 5, 2016 Newtown will hold its 55th Labor Day Parade. This parade has always been a big deal in the town. I remember when I was a kid, going to the parade, getting our spot, and watch the parade with family and friends. Of course, you always waited for the float to come by that would throw candy off of it. Best. Float. Ever.

This is definitely a big event for the people of Newtown and for people in surrounding towns. It's such a fun parade, the energy is always amazing. You definitely have to claim your spot early. People will leave lawn chairs overnight to claim spots. Also, be careful where you park. The town has started putting up "No Parking" signs to keep roads by the parade route clear.

This year, the theme is "There's No Place Like Home," because Newtown is celebrating the Emerald Anniversary of the parade (55 years), and Dr. Bob Grossman is the Grand Marshal this year. There will also be a Labor Day Parade Fair taking place at the Newtown Middle School from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
