I read an article in Billboard magazine today and I'm more confused then ever before.

I picked up a copy of out most recent issue of Billboard 100 today and started to read and learned a few things. The most important of which is that the record companies just like all other industries are scrambling to find a way to compete in a digital world.

Nothing new here but it still is a "cream rises to the top" industry like all others.  The fact is those who had the foresight to get out in front of digital media are thriving. I'm talking about industry executives here. The ones that did not get out in front of it but have established track records of finding and developing talent were able to pay for their loss of foresight by leaving and starting new companies or pairing with already established digital giants.

Jimmy Iovine is a perfect expamle.  He left Interscope Records last year to join Apple.  These shifts in the industry are just beginning.  The players are all the same but the game has changed.

The music industry is NOT dead in my opinion it has just morphed. The loss is in quality, but not dollars. I think on their death beds these industry executives will admit that we are failing the world in what music is available.

I've seen it in the seven years I have been doing this morning show.  We talk with world renowned musicians every week that no one cares about anymore because they don't hump Kim Kardashian, don't have a sex tape or have not made headlines but these artists are true artists who still deserve their due.

The music industry is alive and well, it just may be that MUSIC itself is dead.

R.I.P. music. I love you.
