I went to my first Yankee game when I was 3 years old. That was 1982 by the way. That teamed featured Don Mattingly, Ron Guidry, Goose Gossage and Bucky Dent just to name a few. I'd go to the stadium with my dad every year and catch 3 or 4 games a season.

For most of my young life the team was bad. Then, when I was in high school, something started to happen, these young fresh faces came up through the system and the Yankees started winning. My junior year, 1996 they won the World Series and began one of the great dynasties in sports history.

During that run I got out to the old Yankee Stadium and saw some amazing regular season games, some memorable playoff games and even attended a World Series game. Right around the early 2000's was when I would get most excited about heading to the stadium.

I'd get so fired up because of the home grown guys that played for the Yankees, laid it all on the line each night and pulled off a sports miracle or two. Derek Jeter, Andy Pettite, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera and Bernie Williams made a trip to the Bronx something worth shelling out money for, something worth anticipating. You always knew you had a chance to see something really special.

The Yankee run cooled off for awhile and the Yanks went and got A-Rod, CC, Texeira and grabbed a World Series Championship in 2009. That was fun to watch, but I never felt the same way about that team. They were hired guns and frankly too many of the characters on that team were unlikable.

The excitement I used to feel about Derek Jeter and company is back. Whether or not the Yankees are able to pull this off and get to the World Series, this young team has already cemented their place in the memories of Yankee fans everywhere.

Tonight, I'll be in a place I love watching a young team I already love. Hopefully they will pull off another win most people think they have no business pulling off.

Last night's 8th inning was sick, let's do THAT again.
