Danbury Ice Arena officials have informed the Danbury Whalers they are not welcome back for another season.According to the News-TimesEagle Ice Sports, who owns the Ice Arena, told the Whaler ownership in a letter dated April 3, it will not be renewing the remaining five years on their lease.

They listed three separate issues the Arena has with the team including, "paying invoices for ice time and rent significantly late, not delivering schedules for games and practices in a timely matter, and allowing customers to bring in food and beverages from sources outside the arena.

Eagle Ice Sports have given the Whalers until 5pm on April 17 to vacate the premises. Whaler owner Herm Sorcher, claims the arena owes the team a substantial amount of money, although he didn't explain why or how much they were owed.

This morning Lou and I talked with Whaler coach, Phil Esposito to find if he could talk about the situation.

Are the Whalers finished in Danbury? Will there be new owners? If there are new owners, will Eagle Ice Sports work an agreement so they can play at the Danbury Ice Arena? As of Thursday, April 9th, these questions are all up in the air. I-95 will stay with the story and update you as the facts play out.
