Connecticut’s Eco-Friendly Destination Offers Dining, Unique Shopping
I had never saw or heard of Terrain in Westport before this past Sunday. As Mrs. Large and I made our way down the Post Road, a very cool building caught our attention.
Reclaimed wood, subtle earth-toned concrete, and eco-friendly to it's core, Terrain is a very unique Home, Garden, and Outdoor Living store located at 561 Post Road East in Westport. Terrain's parent company is Anthropologie, so if you've been in the Anthropologie stores in the Danbury or Westchester Malls, this store in Westport is a super-sized version of their home, garden and outdoor section.
What first caught my eye, besides the whole store, were the parking spots in front of the building. Anything located in Westport is on postage stamp-sized property, and the staff that designed the staggered parking spots here are geniuses. They took advantage of every precious inch of pricey Westport land.
The interior of the store is hectic, full of self-absorbed coffee junkies arguing over the best peat moss.
There is a restaurant in Terrain, dubbed The Westport Garden Cafe, which serves up locally-sourced food with hipster-intoxicating ingredients such as Quinoa, Bibb lettuce, heirloom carrots(?), and sunchokes, which I'm guessing are the happier cousin to the moody artichoke.
My favorite items in the store were the live plants. I wrote earlier about the Cactus show that was at NVCC in Waterbury last weekend, which, unfortunately, I missed. Terrain carries succulents, carnivorous plants, and cactii year round.
The staff seemed highly caffeinated, and highly motivated to answer any and all questions. Terrain is a destination store if you need a more thoughtful and refined eye on your expensive gold coast property.
