According to the Hartford Courant, Hurricane Joaquin is eyeballing the east coast as it picks up steam before it slams into the Bahamas tonight and tomorrow. The National Weather Service has upgraded Joaquin to an "extremely dangerous" Category 4 storm with winds in excess of 130 mph along with blinding rain. The big question is "how will Joaquin affect us here in Connecticut?"

Whether the storm will hit or affect New York City and Connecticut is uncertain at this time. Fox CT Meteorologist Joe Furey told the Hartford Courant, "Computer models have been all over the place. some predict a path to the west and some to the east and some are aiming the storm right up the middle." Even if the storm doesn't impact our area directly, the National Weather Service said that it still could cause "substantial inland flooding."

The best advice is to keep your eye on the storm by signing up for Connecticut's Emergency Alert System. It's also recommended that you download the Red Crosses' Free Hurricane App which includes a map of shelters, a flash light, a strobe light, and more. Make sure you have a disaster supply kit with water, flashlight, batteries, cash, first aid supplies, and any ID or emergency documents. Stay safe! I-95 will be broadcasting regular updates about the status of Hurricane Joaquin throughout the weekend.
