Imagine 300 people lining up early to get a head start at buying a book?! According to the News-Times, this Saturday marks the 40th chapter for the "Annual Booth Library Book Sale" in Newtown. It's one of the premier print events in New England! 2,000 book buyers are expected this Saturday when the doors open at 9am.

One entire gymnasium is dedicated to fiction, from Shakespeare to James Patterson. A second gymnasium is dedicated to non-fiction and features an impressive children's section. There's also a "rare book room" that comes complete with that "old book smell." Volunteers spend 12 months sorting through donated books to pick out the best ones for the sale. This year 120,000 items will hopefully raise $100,000 for Newtown's Booth Library. According to Toni Earnshaw from the CH Booth Library, "You can find a book that may be worth hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, in the bottom of a box with things that are worth nothing."

Many of the used books for sale are at fire sale prices. Because Saturday is the busiest of the 5 day sale, when the doors open at 9am, there will be a $5 admission charge for adults. After the weekend, the price will drop, leading up to the final day on Wednesday which will be a big book giveaway day. For more info, visit the book sale website at www.boothbooksale.org.
