I wonder if Johnny Mathis got misty when he first heard "Dark Side of the Moon". After all, that album was going to eventually leave him as helpless as a kitten up a tree.

On this day in 1983 Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" marked its 491st week on the Billboard album chart. That number was a significant one since it set a new record for most weeks on the chart. Now here's a question that you may not know the answer to: Which album held the previous record?

The answer would be none other than "Johnny's Greatest Hits" by Johnny Mathis. His album stayed on the charts for a total of 490 weeks.

Impressive yet not close to the record Pink Floyd would eventually set by the time "Dark Side of the Moon" finally left the charts in October of 1988. That album ultimately spent 741 weeks there.

Is there any album that will ever break that record set by Pink Floyd? I highly doubt it.

Here's another thought that just occurred to me: What would it sound like to have Johnny Mathis collaborate with Pink Floyd for an album?

Maybe they could re-record "Dark Side of the Moon" with Johnny singing all the vocals? No? You're right. Let's just leave that one alone.
