The personal finance website, "WalletHub," has completed a nationwide survey to find the states with the happiest Americans.

They compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 25 key metrics. The data set included "Emotional and Physical Well Being," Work Environment," and "Community Environment and Recreational Activities." 

How happy is Connecticut? Not bad, coming in at #22 out of 51.

The Top 10 Happiest States, according to Wallet Hub's survey are, Utah, Minnesota, Hawaii, Colorado, North Dakota, Nebraska, Washington, Iowa, Massachusetts, and Wyoming. The least happiest states in America are, Michigan, Ohio, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, Alabama, and West Virginia.

There were some surprises with the Connecticut results.

  • We came in #45 when it came to being satisfied with life, but we did rank high in physical health(#8), low depression rate(#14), and obesity rate.(#15)
  • We were the 5th lowest in suicide rate and 14th lowest in divorce rate and we were the 7th safest state in the nation. In the negative column, we ranked 42nd in the long term unemployment rate and 44th for our binge drinking rate.
  • Our commute time came in at #34. Our emotional health grade was not great coming in at #31.
