How Drunk Drivers Get Caught in New York State
The one thing you always tell your kids, friends, family, and co-workers after a night of drinking is to make sure you have a designated driver.
According to LoHud, a study was done specifically revealing drunk driving statistics for the Lower Hudson Valley and how drunk drivers have been caught. The numbers continue to be high year after year in the area.
In 2014, 1,309 drivers were arrested by state police Toop K for drunk driving, which combines Putnam, Dutchess, Westchester and Columbia counties. Here's another statistic, between 2003-2012, over 3,700 people died in New York State in crashes involving a drunk driver accident.
State Trooper Stephanie Higgins with New York State police says these are some of the things cops are trained to look for, reported by LoHud:
- Drivers who take risks and sudden turns
- Drivers who fail to stay in lane and drive in the middle of the road
- Drivers who make illegal turns
- Drivers who stay at a green light too long after its changed
Take it easy out on the roads this summer!
