In years past, I have tried to get out of this in every way possible. I have failed in every way possible.

I have tried to simply put my foot down, and tell Erica I am not going. Swing and a miss on that one. I have tried saying I have work to catch up on at the radio station -- FAIL. I have tried explaining why this is a waste of our time and money. Biggest mistake argument yet.

I have a new angle that I have yet to explore, and that angle is BARGAINING. What is something that I normally would refuse to do, that I can trade off to get out of apple picking? There must be something that she wants and or needs that I normally won't give in on that is more tolerable than apple picking? That is the question I have to answer between now and when the leaves turn. Once I answer that question, I need to offer that activity, service or gesture up in exchange for getting out of apple picking. You need to do the same. Search your feelings, Luke. What is it that you can offer up to get out of apple picking this year? We will explore this tomorrow on the Ethan and Lou show. If you want to share your answer with us, call us at 203-775-9595. Let's put this to an end. Friends don't let friends pick apples.

P.S.  - The reasons why apple picking sucks:

  • The kids don't really even like it. It's really just so moms can take family pictures. It's not for the kids as they claim it is.
  • They charge you to harvest your own fruit. I can get apples at the grocery store for less, and they pick them and sort them for me.
  • It's freezing cold out
  • There are always other people there doing the same thing you are doing. If I have to tell you why that is annoying, then we cannot be friends.
  • The apple picking itself is never the end. They hit you with the hayride and the gift shop. That's how they get ya. Up charges left and right. You left the house to get some apples and came home four hours later with 70 less dollars in your pocket.

P.P.S - If you're an early bird, and have already failed at the bargaining plan, read my partner Ethan's blog about the best places to pick apples:
