Last week, my husband and I were both off from work, and we decided to make it a "staycation." So, we took a few day trips, and one of them was to Hammonasset Beach, in Madison, CT.

I had never been to this beach before and I'm glad we set aside a day to spend at the beach. This was the relaxing day we had been looking to have during the vacation. If you have never been to Hammonasset, do yourself a favor and head up there on your next day off. Preferably a weekday.

The beach has two miles of shoreline for people to set up for the day. There are different parking lots that will take you to different areas of the beach. We chose to park at West Beach and we were pretty happy with our choice. The beach was really nice, and it was so relaxing.

The waves are not huge, which was a bonus for us since we had the kids with us. They both loved the water. So much so, that neither of them wanted to get out of the water. We did have a little time playing in the sand and built a sandcastle, but that was a quick break and it was right back to the water.

I sat in the shallow part and just let the tide wash over my feet while I looked out to the horizon. The views were fantastic, and it didn't hurt that it was a beautiful day. Sometimes, all you need is to sit on a beach, stare at the endless horizon, and listen to the waves. It's a very peaceful feeling.

We went on a Tuesday and paid $9 for parking, so it wasn't expensive to park. The bathroom stalls are big enough where you can get changed in them and not constantly knock into the walls. For food, there is a concession stand, but there is also food close by.

I'm sure we'll be back before the season is over. Maybe we'll see you there!
