Emu are some seriously ugly creatures.  I know I would not want to encounter one just wandering around. That is however just what happened when Stella the Emu from the Walking Wood Farm in Woodbridge, CT escaped her enclosure.

According to the News Times Stella escaped his enclosure and was out on his own for a week before being returned yesterday.  Yes I said HIS enclosure.  The odd bird was named before it's owner Woozie Wikfors realized it's correct gender.  Yes, I also said Woozie Wikfors.  That sounds like a character from Fragile Rock.  This story has the intrigue you could want.  A 6 ft tall man bird with a girl name and a owner named Woozie breaks free for a one week vacation.

Apparently Stella was not alone.  Another emu escaped on Saturday and sadly did not make it back before passing away.

It sounds like Stella's capture and return home was due in large part to the many tips received from concerned citizens.  I mean that is not anything you would not want to tell people.  If you see a 6ft bird roaming the streets free and clear you might make a few phone calls.

The harrowing affair came to an end Sunday when Stella was found playing in traffic on Rte. 8 in Seymour, CT.  The authorities moved in and surrounded the giant bird, captured it and brought it home safely.  It's a happy ending all the way around.....except for the other emu that died of course.
