Clint Eastwood's recent comments about the rise of political correctness, racism and Donald Trump have gotten him in hot water from the left. This includes Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, who tweeted out a response to the 86-year-old screen legend.

"Hey Clint Eastwood count me in as a p---- as we aspire to evolve above racism," he wrote. The Red Hot Chili Peppers supported Bernie Sanders for the Democratic nomination, and played a fundraiser for him in February where they covered David Bowie's "Cracked Actor."

Speaking to Esquire, Eastwood said about Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, "He's on to something, because secretly everybody's getting tired of political correctness, kissing up. That's the kiss-ass generation we're in right now. We're really in a p---- generation. Everybody's walking on eggshells. We see people accusing people of being racist and all kinds of stuff. When I grew up, those things weren't called racist."

Eastwood has long been politically active, even, in the mid-'80s, serving one term as mayor of his hometown of Carmel-by-the-Sea, Calif. In 2012, he spoke at the Republican National Convention, where he shared a stage with a chair, which he admitted in this interview was "silly at the time."

However, he refused to give an official endorsement of Trump, calling his questioning of a judge of Mexican heritage a "dumb thing to say. I mean, to predicate your opinion on the fact that the guy was born to Mexican parents or something. He's said a lot of dumb things. So have all of them. Both sides. But everybody—the press and everybody's going, 'Oh, well, that's racist,' and they're making a big hoodoo out of it. Just f---ing get over it. It's a sad time in history."

On Aug. 25, the Red Hot Chili Peppers will begin a European tour that will last through Nov. 21. You can see all the dates at their website.
