I knew while I was taking these pictures that they still could not capture what I was really seeing but I had to get these photos.

I also quickly realized that I was one of MANY people doing the same thing at the same time which is actually pretty cool.  I think you have to be either really angry or really disconnected to not be able to stop what your doing look up and appreciate that.

I also got to look around social media from our local area and see the other pictures of this sky from a different angle.  It was really something special. I tried to make my stepson take a minute away from what he was doing to check it out but kids just don't get it...at least not yet.  I guess you have to have the world kick you in the junk a few thousand times before you can take a minute to look up and enjoy something that we know is rare.

There were also people online mocking the people who were posting pictures of the sky.  I'm usually one of those people.  I could not do that.  This was not a cat photo, a pic of someone's meal or an update on their workout.  It was a reminder that we are both insignificant and lucky to be here.

After I went back inside I noticed the sky was so bright red that there was a red glow coming through our blinds which were closed...SO COOL!  It was like the beginning of a Sci-Fi movie.  I really wanted something wild to go down soon after but nothing exciting after that.  No aliens space craft, no massive weather system and no anarchy in the streets.  That's the thing about these really insanely cool moments on Earth they last just a few minutes if your lucky and you gotta soak em up.

It did make me think of the movie "Fire in the Sky."

Unfortunately nothing amazing like that but that's the closest the sky has ever been to that color in my life.
