FDA Warns Granola Company About Listing ‘Love’ As Ingredient

It's been a tough, tragic, and heartbreaking past few months in our world. I think love is a good thing to have, don't you? Seems one Government organization feels differently.

I usually share with you recalls that we've been alerted to via the website for the Food and Drug Administration, but evidently they also issue warnings about things that companies can't list as an ingredient in what consumers might eat.

A company in Massachusetts, Nashoba Brook Bakery, has gotten called on the carpet for listing "love" as an ingredient. I kid you not. You can read the letter at fda.gov. Listed under Misbranded Foods, it says:

Your Nashoba Granola label lists ingredient "Love". Ingredients required to be declared on the label or labeling of food must be listed by their common or usual name [21 CFR 101.4(a)(1). "Love" is not a common or usual name of an ingredient, and is considered to be intervening material because it is not part of the common or usual name of the ingredient.

All I can say to the FDA is, lighten up! Don't take things so literally. Okay, I know they are an agency that has protecting consumers as their main function, but I think this one went a tad over board.
