The Jewish holiday of Passover begins this Friday evening, April 3 at sundown.

Passover is a festival of freedom which commemorates the Israelites Exodus from Egypt and their transition from slavery to freedom. The main ritual of Passover is the Seder, which occurs on the first night and may be extended for two nights in some Jewish homes.

This is not only a festive meal, but includes the re-telling of the Exodus, through stories and song. Matzah, which is unleavened bread, is the main food of the Seder.

Also included in the meal is haroset, which is a mixture of apples, wine, cinnamon, and nuts along with matzo ball soup. All of the foods eaten during the Seder are a symbol for events that took place when the Jews were set free by the Egyptian pharaoh.
